Hey it seem like its been forever since we caught up.  Well teacher cadets is amazing, im learning so much about myself as well as the different people around me.  And now we learned about different disablities and we are currently learneding about the physical development which include the four main principles of growth (zygote, embryo, fetus, and neonate) and the four stages of cognitive development.

READ-ALOUDS:
    Chicken Soup for a Preteen Soul 2; Dont forget to remember me by Heather McPherson 12
This story was read by Lexie  It talked about how a girls dad got lung cancer and the heart broke she when through watching him get sick verying passing moment.  This was a very sad story and i couldnt imagine going through it myself.  But this would be a great story to read to students when learning about death and dying.

    Chicken Soup for the Preteen Soul 2; Forever In My Heart by Lauren Ashley Weilbacker, 13

This story was read by Margaret, it was base about death and dying one of the barries we learned about.  It talked about how Lauren went through the 5 different stages with her brothers death.  This would be great for a psychology class.  One activity for this story would be to have a toy drive and deliver to sick people in hospitals and children in foster homes. 

 

    Lukas Quilt by Georgia Guback
This was a very fun book read by Simi, its about Lukas grandmother making a quilt with different colors and patterns.  At first Luka was upset because this was only one color but so later realize her grandmother was adding on more colors.  This story did very well in talking about colors and patterns.  Iwould use this book for an art lesson. 

 

LEARNING EXPERINCES:

    My classmates and i are currently learing about the physical development of human which include the four main principles of growth (zygote, embryo, fetus, and neonate) and the four stages of cognitive development.  To learn about these different developments the class was assigned to groups and in each group they had to come up with a power-point and a lesson to teach the class about the four main principles of growth.  Through each power-point I have learned alot about the different principles of growth.

 

CURRENT EVENTS:

    This article talks about what we have been learning about, the article talks about how research shows barriers do impact the class rooms.  And the different ways it can impact different students about learning.  It also shows how poverty can become a worry on kid's minds instead of the test they have coming up and preparing for it.

QUOTE OF THE WEEK:

    "Education is the most powerful weapon which you can use to change the world." -Nelson Mandela  This quote is really meaningful to me because it show how important it is to have a good education and to take advange what you have to learn.  So one day you can use it to make a difference.

 

OBSERVATIONS:

    One day while i was a the mall with my friends i observed while in line wait to cash out, a lady dropped some money on the floor near her feet.  And before you know it a young little boy picked it up and told her she had dropped this.  I thought that it was the sweetest thing ever especially come from a child so young.

 

REFLECTIONS:

    Looking back at this week i realized that though every age group the four main principles of growth real applies as you grow.  From the sound you hear to the things you see, you have lerned them all as you are growing.  And now a senior i have seen how the came in to play.

Hey yall these past two weeks had been a hand-full.  But if was full of excitment!!!!  Well here it os hope yall enjoy reading it.

READ-ALOUDS:
    This week read-alouds were intesting because i had a read-aloud.  I read "The very Hungry Caterpillar" by: Eric Carle.  After reading this book i had many ideas i could use with this book.  I could use this book for a math lessons for a first or second grade class because i could use the days of the week as numbers and add them together to get a sum.  I could also use it in a science and deision different habbait animals live in.  Another book that was read this week was "Who Said Moo?" by Harriet Zlefert and Simms Taback. This book was mainly about different sounds animals make.  An activity with kids could be making flash cards with animals sounds and the kids would have to make the sound of them.  "Cosmo's Moon" by Devin Scillian.  Was another read aloud and it was about how the moon followed this little boy and the effect it cause in the enviroment.   With this book the childern in k-5, they can use it to learn about the effect of the sun.  In this week we also read "Muddy Paws" by Moira Butterfield.  This book would be great to use in a lesson introducing ontemaptopeia.  The last book we read this week was "A little Something Different" by Cathy Scott.  The unqiue thing about this book was that it was written by Ellory's mother.  And it was a great book about self-esteem.

LEARNING EXPERIENCES:
    Through Teacher Cadets, we as a class got the chance to visit Newberry College for a day. It was a great expierence for us to meet others who were passionate about becoming a teacher.  And it provided a great way to interact with fellow teacher cadets your our lunch and free time with the gmaes they planned for us. 

CURRENT EVENT:
    What is happening currently in New York is the evaluation of teachers based on their students' results from standardized testing. This is an unfair evaluation because teachers are losing their jobs based on how their students score on tests the state comes up with. Many of those students, unfortunately, scored poorer than those evaluating preferred. The system is highly inaccurate since only about 10-15% of the test scores were affected from the teacher while 85-90% of the test scores account for factors other than teachers like peer pressure, school size, and even disabilities and poverty. So then it was stated how some principals would make sure some of those certain students who make the below average test scores will not be put in the classrooms with the excellent teachers to ensure they keep their job. Of course this is not fair for the students since they will not get the best education just because they need a little bit more help in school than others do.

QUOTE OF THE WEEK:
    "If we do not plant knowledge when young, it will give us no shade when we are old." -Lord Chesterfield.  This quote is meaningful to me because it stresses the importance of appreciating your ability to learn at a young age.  because you will need it in the future. Your knowledge is what will help your get throught the struggles and overcome the obstacles life gives you.

OBSERVATIONS:
    In all my class i have oberved that the key to successed and make something out of yoorself it by not giving up and use what you have learned form the past to better your future.  And a big part to that is learning from you mistakes. 

RELECTIONS:
    Last Friday was the Newberry College field trip. I had a blast! It was really cool to tour around the college campas and go in some classrooms of your interest.  I had so much fun with my fellow cadets dancing, socializing, and just spending quality time with each other. I also enjoyed our food Friday this week. Megan's group did an ice cream food Friday. It was delicious! They brought multiple flavors like vanilla, chocolate, strawberry and brought so many toppings. After that my day coulnt been better.

    Hey guys welcome back to another week of my blog. I hope yall enjoyed the first one I posted. Theres is so such to tell you guys about these pass two week and i cant wait till yall read it.  Well here it is and i hope yall enjoy it and yall feel like yall are being a cadet with me.

READ- ALOUDS:
    As always we start off with read- aloud, so the first book was Kitten's first full moon by: Kevin Henker.  This was about a kitten who saw the moon's reflection and thought it was a bowl of milk.  So lesson ideas for this book would be an art class about shapes because the moon can very from small to big.  It also start a discussion about never giving up because the kitten kelt trying and trying to reach the moon thinking that it was a bowl of milk.  This book can also teach student how to give directions.  Aonther book we read it week was I knew you could by: Craig Dorfman.  This was about a little train that was finding him self in the world so he had to stay on the right track and never giving up.  An activte with this story could be a writting assignment on "what your scared of" be the little train was always scare that he would fall off the tracks.  Another idea would be a lessons on different transpertations.  The third book we read this week was Mr. Tall and Mr. Small by: Barbara Brenner.  Activies with this book would be learning about opposites and working together with diferences.  You aslo can use this book in a english class with rhyming.  Two more books we read this week was Big Black bear by: Wong Herbert Yee and The kissing handy by: Audrey Penn.  Some ideas for these books would be a class for learning manners.  An activite the students could do is create a sentence with sign language.  And for the book the kissing hand there could be a discussion about overcoming fears when your away from home. 

LEARNING EXPERIENCES:
    This week we learned about self- esteem and the different types of self- esteem.  We learned that self-conpect can move in a horizonal direction.  We can add or take away from it.  We also learned that theres a difference betwwen earned self- esteem and global self- esteem.  Earned self-esteem is when you have to work for it and accomplish it as an indiviual but when its a global self-esteem everyone get credit for being apart of the group.  This week we also wrote an essay on our own accomplish we done from present to past.

CURRENT EVENT:
    A current event that is happening as the upcoming back-to- school year comes is "Why Grit is More Important Than Good Grades"  In the article it discusses that building a childs character may be more important then their I.Q and SAT scores.  A reacher say that "a temporary failure can be very scary, to students and parents alike.  But experiencing failure and adversity, is a critical part of building character."  If you would like to read more here a link you can click on: http://ideas.time.com/2012/09/05/why-grit-is-more-important-than-grades/?iid=op-main-mostpop1

QUOTE OF THE WEEK:
    “In learning you will teach, and in teaching you will learn.”- Phil Collins i choose this quote  because when i read it, i agree with it alot.  Because everything you are learning something soon you will teach it to someone else.  And while teaching it you can learning something more that can benefit you and others over oneself. 

OBSERVATIONS:
    In the pass two weeks i have observated a lot about respect.  I say this because you have to give respect before you can receive it.  In dazzlers respect comes a  long way because their is your coach you have to respect as will as your teammates.  In a younger crowd of people you have to teach them the meaning of respect because no one was born knowing what it mean but instead they were always taught what it means. 

REFLECTIONS:
    In the weeks pasted i've learned a lot about myself when it comes to earned self- esteem.  Because as i took a look at my past i realize how many accomplish i made from not giving up and trying my hardest.  I also learned that it takes more than being apart of something to get credit that means something to you.

Hey guys welcome to my blog!!!  Im glad that yall are intersted in keep up with me and my year as a teacher cadet.  Hope yall stay tone and sees what goes on as a cadet 2013.

READ-ALOUDS:
    For the first week as a cadet, the first thing we did were read-aloud.  The first two classes Mrs. Jackson started our read-alouds off.  The first book was Mrs. Spitzer's Garden by Edith Pattlou.  This book would be a good book to read to kids because it was about student with different needs and teachers need to understand them so the can help the student be the best they can.  It also teachs students that they are all diferent and special in their own way.  After reading this book some acftivies the teacher can do with he/she class is a writing assignment on how they are differnt from other students and what makes them unique.  For yonger students a teacher could have a show-and-tell and each student brings something from home that describes them best.  The second book was My Losing Season by Pat Conroy.   This was about a boy who played basketball in high school and later in his life he gave up basketball but shortly later he realized how much he missed this dream.  A teacher could use this book to start a dissgestion on what he/she students dream are and how they can achive its dream.  After the first two books, other own classmates started to do the read-alouds.  The first to go was Meline Washington.  She read Teahcer's Pets by D. Jakobs.  This book was about the first day of school.  This book could incourge students to join club/school event around school campus.  The last book we read this week was These Hands by Hope Lynne Price and read by Cortni Mckenzie.  Some activies with this book would be a art class and student and make a picture with different hand sizes.  There also can be a lesson with a science class on the 5 scenes and touching would be one of them.  These are the book was have done so far in teacher cadets.

LEARNING EXPERIENCES:
    So far in  class we have been just getting to know and understand our classmates.  We had this assignment were we got a paper bag to design so we can explain and describe who we are to the class.  After this assignment we found classmates that had the same interest as us.  We also wrote an eassy on ourself and what we learned from each other after the bag presentations. 

CURRENT EVENT:
    A current event that is happening in the state at the moment is ''Catholic Schools Feeling Squeeze From Charters.''  In this article it dissgests how chartered school are becoming more populated then catholic schools.  In the article it states that ''number of students in Catholic schools has fallen.    '' If you have knowledge, let others light their candles at it.'' ~Margaret Fuller  I choose this quote because to me i see a lot of meaning behind it then just words.  To me this quote means if you have knowledge and you are all knowing then why not share it to others.  As a person or as a teacher the power to life is what you know and what you have to offer.  So as the person that knows the most, share it to other that knows least then you.  Then as a socitey yall can know more together and infulence others as a whole.

OBSERVATIONS:
    Something i always see in school and outside of school is patient.  In school patient can come a long way.  For example getting from one class to another, you have to be patient with other students cause they are also trying to get to their class as well as yourself.  Patient is very important when it comes to young people because depending on the person/student each one learnings and understands at different pace.  so you have to be patient and work with them till they understant. 

REFLECTIONS:
    Over the two week so far i have learned a lot about myself.  I've learning that i have lots of other classmates that have the same interest as me, like becoming a doctor of some source.  I also learned that it takes a lot to be a great teacher and not just for yourself but for other to see you as a great teacher.
